The book “Towards A Democratic Nepal” by Prof. Mahendra Lawoti; puts Nepali society and politics critically analyzed and offered free democratic alternates. The caste, ethnic and gender discrimination in Nepal was the most dangerous problem than the Maoist problems. After the restoration of democracy in 1990, the social state of excluding or being excluded indigenous people, dalits, madhesi, religious minorities and women increased to exercise their power violently.

Nepal adopted multiple parties’ democracy in 1990 and kept the constitutional loyalty. However, except for the general election of 1991 when the Nepali Congress (NC) obtained with effort a majority, in none of the following after elections, a political party had a majority share. These were temporary alliance governments for combined action, none leading to political stability, which further progressively made wrong relation due to the Maoist arising and they revolting against Nepal.

This book tells about the problem, which is increasing the political exclusion of ethnic, caste and gender groups in democratic Nepal and it discusses all problems for democracy of the country. On the other hand it is outlining the alternate democratic institutes and leading to specific institutes which includes the diverse socio-cultural groups in Nepal, this book:

Tells about the Maoist insurgency, arguing that political exclusion was a major cause for its growth and development. The CPNUL (Communist Party of Nepal – United Marxist Leninist) engaged a violent class of warfare in 1970s. Meanwhile the Maoist were pushed into all out operations by there “non presence in decision-making process” within the communist movement itself, they were treated as black sheep.
