Thesis statement: Macbeth and the evil queen in Snow white and the huntsman share many of the same qualities because they both appear to be different than they actually are, they both kill a king to have complete power to themselves, and finally they both have sources as to where they get their information to help them continue to hold on to their power.

“Power attracts the worst and corrupts the best”, author Edward Abbey once said. In history, there are thousands of stories where the need for power often causes conflicts and destroys people. Two examples of these stories are Macbeth and Snow White and the Huntsman. Although the two novels revolve around contrasting story lines and take place in different time periods, there is a lot of congruity between the two. Some of these similarities include the fact that both main characters become greedy with power and they let it consume them. Macbeth and the evil queen Ravenna in Snow white and the huntsman both appear to be different than they actually are and they both kill a king to have complete power to themselves. Finally they both have sources as to where they get their information to help them continue to hold on to their power.

As said before, Macbeth is very similar to the evil queen in Snow white and the Huntsman because both characters appear to be kind, but are actually awful. The Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman deceives everyone and perceives to be a beautiful and compassionate woman, when in reality she is heartless. In the story, the queen murders anyone that comes in the way of what she desires, and she has no compassion for any of the citizens or animals in her kingdom. The narrator unfortunately explains, “under the reign of Ravenna nature turned on itself and people turned on each other”(Evan Daugherty, 2012).                          Macbeth relates to this a lot because in the beginning of the novel, everyone believes that he is a hero and he is worthy of fulfilling any leadership job possible. Duncan states, “What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won”(Shakespeare, pg.8). Later on in the story, people begin to realize how horrible he truly is, by watching him destroy the country and kill everyone that comes in the way of his power. This shows that there is a tremendous difference between appearance and reality and not everyone is what they say they are, like Macbeth and Ravenna.  Macbeth is also very similar to the queen because they both kill a king to have ultimate power. Before she was queen, Ravenna misleads the king into believing that she is a delicate and empathetic woman who is in love with him, convincing him to marry her. On their wedding night, after Ravenna is announced queen, she unfortunately murders the king in his sleep, so that she can have complete control over the kingdom and the most power over anyone. Ravenna harshly explains, “First I will take your life, my lord. Then I will take your throne”(Evan Daugherty, 2012).  Macbeth is found in the same situation when he gets a taste of leadership, by becoming the thane of Cawdor, and wants more leadership to have the ultimate power. Furthermore, he devises a plan to have the king killed in his sleep so that he is the next in line. Before Macbeth does the deed he profoundly states, “ I go, and it is done. The bell invites me. Hear it not, Duncan, for it is a knell that summons thee to heaven or to hell”(Shakespeare, pg.52). With this done, he unfortunately controls everyone and everything with violence.  Finally, Macbeth and Ravenna the evil queen are extremely alike because they both have sources as to where they get their information to help them continue to hold on to their power. According to the fairy tale story that is familiar to most, Ravenna despises Snow...
