What is Global Warming
And how does it happen?
Global Warming is an increase in the Earth's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures. It is said to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution. The Greenhouse Effect takes place when the sun’s waves reach the Earth as short wave radiation and bounce back into space when they hit the Earth’s surface, objects, people or clouds as long wave radiation. Some of the long wave radiation is trapped by a blanket of gases, called greenhouse gases, to keep the Earth warm. Global Warming takes place when this blanket thickens as more gases are added to it, trapping more heat causing the Earth’s temperature to rise.

Causes of Global Warming
GREEN HOUSE GASSES- The build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere during the 20th century has resulted from the growing use of energy and expansion of the global economy. Over the century, industrial activity grew 40-fold, and the emission of gases such as Carbon Dioxide (Co2) and sulphur Dioxide (So2) grew 10-fold. AEROSOLS IN THE ATMOSPHERE- Atmosphere aerosols are able to alter climate in two important ways. First, they scatter and absorb solar and infrared radiation and, second they may change the microphysical and chemical properties of clouds and possible their lifetime and extent. The scattering of solar radiation acts to cool the plant, while absorbed by the surface of the Earth. MAN’S DESTRUCTION OF NATURAL RESOURCES THAT ABSORB GREENHOUSE GASES- Rapid deforestation and destruction of coral reefs,...
