Climate change is a very hot topic in recent years. There are a lot of opinions and concerns between people. Some scientists and experts suggest that people should pay attention about this serious problem. Anthony A. Leiserowitz in his article “ American Risk Perceptions: Is Climate Change Dangerous?” published in Risk Analysis (2005) and Elke U. Weber and Paul C. Stern in their article “ Public understanding of Climate Change in the United States” published in the American psychologist (2011) discussed different understanding about climate change between the US public and scientists, how they understand by their methods and got the results from their understanding. All of the authors discussed the public opinion show people’s attitude of global warming. Weber and Stern gave three statements that global warming has begun, caused by human activities, and will pose a serious threat. Weber and Stern mentioned that most people had a similar idea with scientists in other countries. But most people in America did not endorse these statements. Because of three problems which are from physical, psychological, and social factors, climate change is difficult to learn for American people. Weber and Stern explained some basic attributes of climate change make it hard to understand, scientists and public using different ways to develop their understanding made they had controversy, and people often rely on other indirect way to answer their questions about climate change. Comparing to Weber and Stern, Leiserowitz explained how public opinion polls worked. At the beginning, the polls only ask if people knew global warming without reasons. Leiserowitz gave many researches to show that most people already knew global warming, only a few people did not. He also explained some specific public opinion polls.
