Today, the teaching- learning to a great extent is a process in which the individual learner is expected to take up challenges through an inevitable intellectual revolution. The learner is the person who creates new understanding for him/ herself. The teacher provides activities that engage the child’s mind as well as hands that will lead to the cognitive development. The effectiveness of teaching – learning very much depends on how the teacher engages and explains and how the child explores and how he is evaluated. Here comes the emergence of 5E learning cycle model. 5E Learning cycle model

Rogger Bybee (1997) formulated a continuous cycle of learning based on the experiential learning model, as a by product of constructivism. The 5E learning cycle model of instruction includes the following discrete elements: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. Engage: - The engage component in the 5E learning cycle model is intended to capture students’ attention. Get students thinking about the subject matter, raise questions in students minds, stimulate thinking and access prior knowledge, for example teacher may engage students by creating surprise or doubt through a demonstration that shows a piece of steel sinking and a steel toy boat floating. Explore :- The explore phase of the learning cycle provides an opportunity for students to observe, record data, isolate variables, design and plan experiments, create graphs, interpret results, develop hypothesis and organize their findings. Teacher may frame questions suggest approaches, provide feed back, and assess understandings. Explain: - Students are introduced to models, laws, and theories during the Explain phase of learning cycle. Students summarize results in terms of these new theories and models. The teacher guides the students towards coherent and consistent generalization, which help, students with distinct scientific vocabulary and provides questions that help students to use this...
